Wish a foot doctor was available at Friedrichs?
Wish granted!
Jean Carlson (Friedrichs) has taken the first step and has arranged to have a podiatry doctor available to offer their services at Friedrichs. The next step is up to you: Write to Jean Carlson for additional information. Jean's email is jeancarlson01@gmail.com. Or call or text her at (914) 278-0854. The Podiatrist accepts both Medicare and Medicaid. Jean hopes to soon expand this service to other residents at Wartburg as well.
Tired of the Lincoln Avenue Red Light that keeps you waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting?
Good news: The Mayor of Mount Vernon has given the Green Light to possibly speed up the light!
Thanks to Allan Minsky (one of the newest residents of Friedrichs), Mayor Shawyn Patterson-Howard has given the green light to have the red light possibly shortened to a more reasonable waiting time. Allan Minsky wrote:
“I have had email correspondence with the Mayor of Mount Vernon. The effect of my writing to her has been as follows: When you drive out of Wartburg, you arrive at a traffic light. A left turn onto East Lincoln Avenue will reveal turning instructions on the ground. That information was too light and hence just about invisible. I got the Mayor to have the details painted and now the site is crystal clear.
The traffic light mentioned above has a very long wait time until it changes from red to green. After changing to green, it remains in that status for too short a period of time. I have seen people pass the light while it was still red. They might have thought it was broken. The current traffic light status is that a feasibility study is being conducted to determine how to handle the matter because it involves the towns of Mount Vernon and Pelham. When more information is available, it will be provided. Hopefully, the Mayor, working with the Town of Pelham, will eventually have the light retimed. Any alterations will be contingent upon results of the feasibility study.
If both of the above are accomplished, then I would urge anyone who drives to or from the Wartburg to vote for the Mayor because we have benefited from her actions and she serves her constituents with delivery, not just promises.”
Talking about things that are green...
Does it sometimes seem the grass is always greener at the Wartburg? These recent outdoor photos from Clyde Herring (Friedrichs) will prove it's true...

A Special Update to True Stories: Exploring Memoir
What is a memoir? Whose stories make it into print? What is the relationship between truth and fabrication? How do private lives intersect with public events? Over four weeks, we will meet to discuss a few of the most important memoirs of the last one hundred years and begin to address questions about what defines memoirs, who writes them, and which ones have stood the test of time. We will meet over eight sessions to discuss four memoirs. In addition to the reading group, I will also facilitate an optional second session for anyone who wants to try their hand at writing their own stories. In a one-hour workshop, I will create writing prompts based on topics and techniques that we find in the memoirs we are reading. Bring a laptop or pen and paper. You are welcome to join for both the reading group and the writing workshop or just one or the other.

You don't just live at Wartburg, you can
play, too!
In a recent game of Scrabble, residents of Friedrichs, Clyde
Herring and Linda Burkhardt, demonstrated incredible skill. Linda scored an
impressive 71 points by using all her tiles in a single play; while Clyde, who
is pictured, was celebrated for winning the game. Great job to both players for
their outstanding performance. - Contributed by Delores Alvarado
